The exhibition consists of two “portrait” series:

acrylic on canvas, 2019
pen & ink on transparent paper, 2022

The artwork is accompanied with texts directly from each woman* in the artwork.

The 2019 series, which questions the influence of time and society on women and their decision-making options, emerged from the 30th anniversary of Ban Ying e.V. (www.ban-ying.de) under the title: Nit in Transit – Cecile in Exile – Dora in Diaspora.

The 2022 series is about the question:
“What have you done that made you realize that you are an awesome and powerful woman?”

The women in this series came from Southeast Asia and are part of the advocacy work of the project by Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) and Ban Ying e.V. about/for inclusive re-/integration of women in their home countries and in Germany. In both series are all women migrants.

Krisanta Caguioa-Mönnich is a language and cultural mediator in the women organization Ban Ying e.V.

Through her close contact with the residents of the shelter and the clients of the counseling center, she was inspired to make the women* through her art as reminders, capture part of their story and tell it to the public.

Sponsored by University of the Philippines Alumni Association in Germany e.V.
